New Mac, offline days, signing out and updates

Your account works on one Mac at a time. To move, sign out in the app on the old Mac, then sign in on the new one. Between check-ins your buddies keep working offline for up to 14 days, and the app updates itself in the background.

Why only one Mac?

Your buddies belong to the account that bought them, for personal use on your own Mac, so an account is active on one Mac at a time. If you sign in on a second Mac while the first still holds your account, the app says “This account is active on …” with the first Mac’s name, asks you to sign out there first, and leaves nothing behind on the second Mac.

How do I move to a new Mac?

  1. On the old Mac, choose Sign out in the menu-bar menu, or in Settings under Account. That frees your account and removes your buddies from that Mac.
  2. On the new Mac, sign in on the website and download the app from your library.
  3. Install it, agree to the terms and sign in with the same email. Your buddies download again.

What if I lost my old Mac, or can’t sign out on it?

Contact us from the help page, from the email you sign in with, and tell us the Mac is gone. We free your account so your new Mac can use it. The same goes if the app says your account is still active on this Mac from an earlier sign-in.

What happens when I sign out?

Signing out hands your account back, so another Mac can use it, and removes your buddies and your account’s data from this Mac: the downloaded buddies, your sign-in and your settings for them. Nothing is lost from your account; sign in again, here or on another Mac, and your buddies download again. If the app can’t reach us when you sign out, it asks first. “Sign Out Anyway” leaves your account held by this Mac until we free it, so it is better to choose “Stay Signed In” and sign out once you are back online.

How long do buddies work offline?

Up to 14 days. The app checks your purchases every 4 hours, when it opens, when you sign in, shortly after your Mac wakes and whenever you choose “Refresh purchases”. When a check can’t reach us, your buddies carry on, and Settings shows “Offline · using purchases verified …” with the time of the last successful check. If 14 days pass without one, your buddies pause, and they come back by themselves as soon as the app can check in again.

What happens if my plan ends?

Your buddies work while your plan is active. If a Monthly or Annual plan ends, they pause on your Mac and stay saved to your account; start the plan again and they come back. Turning off renewal keeps everything until the end of the time you paid for. Lifetime never renews and never expires.

How does the app update?

It checks for updates once a day. With “Automatically install updates” on, which is the default, it downloads an update in the background and installs it when you quit the app. Turn that off in Settings under General, or in the menu-bar menu, and the app still checks every day but asks before installing. “Check for updates…” in the menu-bar menu, or “Check now” in Settings, checks straight away. Updates are signed, and the app refuses one that isn’t ours, so there is no need to download the app again from the website.

What if the terms change?

When we update the terms, the app asks you to read and agree to the new version before your buddies show again. “Review the new terms…” appears in the menu-bar menu, and agreeing takes one tick.
