What is a desktop companion? Meet My Dock Buddies

A desktop companion, sometimes called a desktop pet, is a small animated character that lives on your screen alongside your work. My Dock Buddies makes small, stylized 3D characters ("buddies") that live on your Mac desktop as companions. The Mac app is out, for macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on an Apple silicon or Intel Mac.

What does a desktop companion do?

Max’s and Avery’s activities fall into four groups. Work is typing, debugging code, writing a to-do list or joining a video call. Breaks are a coffee, a stretch or a nap in the office chair. Desk care is watering a plant, stacking books or cleaning the desk. Play is running, dancing, a high five or chasing your cursor.

What can Max and Avery do today?

Max’s 3D build has 37 activities, 33 props and 8 moods: 13 activities for work, 6 activities for breaks, 7 activities for desk care, and 11 activities for play. Avery’s has 39 activities, 38 props and 8 moods, including 2 of her own: sort priority cards and tidy the cables. The 8 moods are happy, sad, focused, surprised, tired, thinking, laughing, and excited.

Is a buddy there to make me more productive?

No. A buddy is not there to turn your day into another to-do list. It is there for company, with a little movement and humor around the work you already do. Max is curious and a little restless: he celebrates the small wins and takes his coffee breaks very seriously. Avery brings a quieter rhythm: she makes room for a thought and knows when it is time to step away.

Who is in the crew?

Max the builder and Avery the thinker are available to choose today. Juno, a desktop salvager who fixes and polishes things with a small hovering drone named Bit, is coming next. Aadi, a kite runner, follows Juno. Both will be $99 when they are released. We plan by release order rather than hard dates, so the website never promises a day it cannot keep.

Is the Mac app out?

Yes. The My Dock Buddies app for Mac came out on 14 September 2026, for macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on an Apple silicon or Intel Mac. It is for members: Monthly is $5.99 a month, Annual is $69 a year, and Lifetime is $200 once and never renews. Each buddy you buy is $49.50, the founding launch price, until 13 October 2026, then $99. With an active plan, download the app from your library, sign in with the 6-digit code we email you, and your buddies download and step onto your Dock.

Can I get a buddy made just for me?

Yes, with Annual or Lifetime. You can request a custom buddy: a stylized character, not an exact likeness, made from photos you are allowed to share. We price each request, work starts once you pay, and we aim to deliver within 72 hours of payment.

Can I see a buddy before I pay?

Yes. The playground on our homepage lets you click blue for a walk, coral for a run, yellow to jump for joy, mint to say hello or purple to celebrate. Drag to look around, and pause the motion whenever you like.
