What they do

The small sounds your buddies make

Your buddies are getting a voice: a soft boop when you poke one, a whoosh when you pick him up, a knock when you put him down, footsteps when you send him running. You can hear the first of them on the playground on our home page right now. They are short, they are quiet, and there is one rule behind all of them.

What makes a sound, and what you did to cause it.
You do thisYou hear
Poke a buddyA soft rubbery boop, a different one each time
Pick one upAn airy rise as he leaves the Dock
Put him downA light wooden knock as he lands
Open his right-click menuA faint tick, quieter than everything else
Send him runningQuick little footsteps
Ask for a jumpA whoosh going up, not a thud coming down
Ask for a wave or a celebrationA short non-verbal chirp
Click his middle so he stops to thinkA curious hum
Plug in your chargerA magnetic snap as he plugs a cable in too

The rule: you did something, so it answers

Nothing makes a sound on its own. A buddy working away while Claude Code runs, taking a break because you stepped away, winding down at night: all of that stays silent. It has to, or a companion that follows your day would chirp at you all day, and you would turn it off within an hour. The only exception is the charger, and only because plugging it in is something you did on purpose.

No words, in any language

Every voice clip is non-verbal: chirps, hums and gibberish, never speech. Words would need translating, they age badly, and a character who talks stops being a character you can project anything onto. It also means one performance can serve both buddies: the same take sits a little higher for Max, a little warmer for Avery.

Short, quiet, and never twice the same

Most clips are under a quarter of a second. Each sound has two or three variants and never plays the same one twice in a row, so poking him repeatedly does not sound like a machine. The menu tick is mixed deliberately below everything else, because you should only notice it if it went missing.

Try it on the playground

The playground on our home page plays them now. Press Run, Jump, Wave or Celebrate and you will hear them; there is a Sound button beside Reset view if you would rather not. Walking and hanging out are silent, because not everything needs a noise.

And in the Mac app?

They arrive in an update after 0.1.3, off until you turn them on, with a volume you control. Clicks, drags, the menu and the charger are what speak; everything your buddies do by themselves stays quiet.
